MEET CHRIS

Chris Stenger is a Palm Springs-based fine artist who specializes in whimsical, one-of-a-kind oil paintings. From dogs to dahlias to vineyard vistas and more, Chris’s work bursts with color and character.

 

The signature vibrancy in each piece begins with a complex underpainting process featuring distinctly bright hues. Chris then uses a combination of techniques to build dimension: Thin, translucent glazing creates a shadow-like effect while allowing bright colors to shine through. Thicker applications by brush or palette knife add tactile, pleasing texture. Always color-forward, Chris intentionally uses very little black.

 

His finished paintings are mesmerizing in their color complexity and distinct in their style—one that the artist himself describes as, “somewhat similar to post-Modernism but with a slight hint of realism.”
